As a continuation from her latest exhibition, Shifting Landscapes, Jody Rosen's Sacred Mountain Series will be exhibited alongside Lia Klugman – a ceramicist with over 20 years experience making a producing original and bespoke pieces. Jody's artwork employs a considered use of mixed media and intuitive painting techniques to evoke lush and seemingly endless mountainous landscapes — a tribute to classic Australian bush scenes, inspired by a serendipitous trip to the Blue Mountains. The series’ generous, coloured illustrations evoke the freshness and silence of this iconic landscape, as the spacious horizons materialise from several months of plein-air painting. Espousing the complex and overwhelming natural landscape she immersed herself in, Rosen’s expansive yet contemplative use of the cool palette culminates in a series that evokes the unique clarity that comes after a change of season.

“With the challenge of capturing the garden map and changes in my inner world, the shade of the trees came as a relief and protection from the old. Fresh branches and new horizons bring hope and transformation – to our inner and outer worlds.” – Jody Rosen

Jody Rosen

Biography

Born in South Africa, Jody Rosen immigrated to Australia in 1986, armed with her Diploma in Fine Arts from South Africa. She move on to gain a MArt in painting from UNSW, Sydney.

Rosen has always been passionate about art and moving to Sydney has a significant influence on her art works. The Australian colour, light and style injected her work with a new energy, which developed into a passion for painting. These themes and energies resonate in her most recent body of work, Shifting Landscapes, which evoke the immense natural beauty of the Blue Mountains. The series of landscapes espouses intuition with well-honed technique, while nodding to Rosen’s trans-national homes and travels. Typical to Rosen’s style, Shifting Landscapes is deeply embedded with personal memory, optimism and an enduring love of travel.
